The output signal quality of a rectifier is dramatically improved by using an inductor filter. An L-filter circuit is constructed by placing an inductor in series with the load. This means that the output signal passes directly through the inductor. Any voltage that is dropped across the inductor will therefore not be measured by the load (V out).
Because the current flowing through the inductor cannot change instantaneously, using an inductor for energy storage provides a steady output current from the power supply.
